Sopečná činnost čtvrtohor - nejmladší sopky

KOMORNÍ HŮRKA

Komorní hůrka patří se svou pouze 100 000 let starou erupcí mezi nejmladší sopky na našem území. Přestože je to sopka drobných rozměrů, sehrála významnou úlohu v dějinách věd o Zemi a v chápání geologické stavby a procesů. Právě zde totiž nechal Hrabě Kaspar Maria ze Šternberka na popud přírodovědce a básníka Johanna Wolfganga Goethe v letech 1834-1837 vyhloubit průzkumné štoly. Jednalo se o první experiment takovýchto rozměrů v dějinách, který měl za cíl pouze vědecké bádání a nikoliv ložiskovou prospekci. Cílem štol ostatně nebylo nic menšího, než objasnění původu vulkánů, a to se podařilo. Přívodní dráha vyplněná čedičovou horninou jasně prokázala magmatický původ sopek a vyvrátila hypotézu o sopkách živených hořícími slojemi uhlí. © Czech geological survey

With its only 100,000-year-old eruption, Komorní hůrka is one of the youngest volcanoes in our territory. Although it is a small volcano, it has played an important role in the history of the Earth sciences, and in understanding the geological structure and processes. It was here that Count Kaspar Maria of Šternberk had exploration galleries dug in the years 1834-1837 at the instigation of the naturalist and poet Johann Wolfgang Goethe. This was the first experiment of such dimensions in history, aimed only at scientific research and not at prospecting. After all, the goal of the galleries was nothing less than to clarify the origin of the volcanoes, and it succeeded. The inlet path filled with basalt rock clearly proved the magmatic origin of the volcanoes, and refuted the hypothesis of volcanoes fed by burning coal seams. © Czech geological survey
